The Vehicle Inspection Report helps identify what did not meet the inspection requirements. Bring the report and tell us about any warning lights, recent repairs or changes in how your vehicle runs. The report provides a starting point; further testing may be needed to determine the cause.
Why a Vehicle May Fail an Emissions Inspection
The cause depends on the vehicle and the type of inspection. Possible concerns include:
- Problems detected by the onboard diagnostic system
- Missing or malfunctioning emissions-control components
- A missing or leaking fuel cap
- Emissions readings above the allowable limits
- Visible exhaust smoke
A failure does not identify a specific replacement part by itself. Replacing an air filter, gas cap or sensor without confirming the cause may leave the original problem unresolved.
